Last week I put the last strokes on Captain Christopher James Adams Johnson VIII. My first big (28" x 32") portrait. It gave me the experience to tackle a large uncommissioned figure painting that I'm starting now.

It's tricky to know when a painting is done; I always feel I can do better until I've gone too far. We have to learn to be satisfied with slow progress and be confident that it is progress.

Sarah, this has such a warm quality, but very professional at the same time. The hands...son excelente.
If this is your first commissioned portrait, what lies ahead?! Love, Nance
